After reading the BtS and being disappointing personally and reading others thoughts on the matter I am going to lay out why the November BtS is disappointing. One of the big arguments I have been seeing is people saying the following:
Community: Jagex, stop making new content and focus on old stuff! You're just cramming crap down our throats and lagging the Runescape Gold game!
So jagex does as requested....
Community: Jagex, you're planning no "real" updates this month! It's obvious that this game is going to die because of that. Make new stuff!
The problem with this statement is the list of improvements seems to be very small fixes instead of the larger fixes people have been asking for like construction, older skills, mini-game, graphical over hauls, server over hauls. When people ask for Jagex to focus on fixing existing content its generally a nod towards the bigger things that are in need of repair to make them relevant to today's Runescape.
The list of improvements we have been shown in the BtS don't seem to be anything anyone really wanted as priority number 1, better fireworks for 99's? new log in animation? adv log achievements? I mean notes to friends and emote improvements are great I guess but whats listed are small rather un-important changes to the meat of the game (content listed above). When people say these things should be in the patch notes I'd say they have a justified statement.
Over all nothing players have really been wanting overhauled seems to be getting that treatment. Another month without a construction re-work, another month without updates to things like the games room or trouble brewing or fist of guthix. Another month without over hauls to other skills like agility.
Issue number 2 - Lack of planned content, specifically quests.
One of the big issues I personally have as a quest cape owner is the lack of quests.
This year we have had a total of five quests and one re-worked quest. Compare this to last year's seven regular quests and eight reworks which for the most part were rather enjoyable compared to the demon slayer rework of 2013.
Their has been a significant drop of quest content to less than half that of the previous year, unless Jagex releases two quests in December we will have gotten less than half the amount of quests the previous year got. This is a very dismal year for questers as the quality of some of the quests has seen a drop off from previous years as well with demon slayer rework containing multiple errors in story and character use, over all shortness of the quest and lack of anything meaningful, birthrights re-use of old graphics, glitches, mechanic issues and story problems.
There also doesn't seem to be a focus on Runescape 2007 Gold playable content this year with most of the games resources appearing to but put towards micro-transaction items that come out without fail at regular intervals without issue. Where is the dev budget for this game being allocated? no Halloween? very few quests? other content being delayed or pushed back without any updates? Jagex needs to get some problems worked out or this games future may be in serious jeopardy.
issue 3 - Content that has been pushed back, no November releases?
Anything Listed in june that has yet to be released, again where is the dev budget? how many workers do you still have making RS? are we going to see a big chunk of 2013's content pushed into 2014?
EDIT: Also no thanksgiving event? it can't be that hard to release turkeys for players to kill to get the old emotes.
Issue 4 Too much focus on micro-transaction updates.
I know people talk about this one a lot and often remark how it has its own dev team, but the rest of the game is suffering a lack of content. They need to stop making micro-trans items for a month and move them over to content development to get old content rolling. If they did this every other month the amount of content we would have might pass as satisfactory.
Over all look at Novembers micro transaction content (always unlisted micro content as well) vs actual content. We have virtually no real content other than barrows. This needs to change for next November .
